Conditions of use of domestic train tickets of the hellenic railways

Railways transport passengers, baggage and accompanied cars with Inter City trains, suburban trains and ordinary trains. The Ministry of Infrastructure, Transport and Networks determines and approves the Passenger's and Baggage's Tariff. During the journey, passengers have the right to carry their baggage either free of charge or with payment of a special fee. In that case, the baggage must be delivered to the station's competent office. For each transportation category (passengers, baggage) a special ticket is issued. A special additional ticket is issued for every additional service (accommodation, accompanied car, use of Inter City Express, Inter City trains, etc.). Passengers travelling without ticket or without a valid ticket will be obliged to pay the price of the ticket plus a fine. Passengers' claims can be addressed to the station master or to the guard conductor. Written claims can also be accepted and will receive the appropriate answer by the Hellenic Railways after the examination of the case. If the passenger has not received a satisfactory answer through the above mentioned procedures, the intervention of the Committee for Settlement of Disputes can be sought.

Domestic Passengers Traffic

1. In case a passenger or baggage's transportation is not realized because of the railways responsibility the total amount of the ticket or the baggage price is refunded.
2. In case the transportation is not realized because of passengers' responsibility or desire, then:

• The amount of the ticket price for a single or return journey or the quality or priority supplement or the supplement for the sleeping car accommodation is not refunded.
• The baggage and accompanied cars' fees as well as the price of the special offers are refunded with a deduction kept by the Hellenic Railways.
• The validity of the ticket can be extended for a maximum period of six months from the departure date, according to the passenger's wish.In certain cases of delay or schedule cancellation the passenger has the right:a) to interrupt his journey and to demand the ticket refund for the section which is not realized,b) to continue his journey with the next train connection, even if it is a superior category train,c) to return without payment with the first train to the departure station and to demand a ticket refund.

International Passengers Traffic

In case of train delays, which lead to a missing of connecting trains, or in case of train schedules cancellation, the Hellenic Railways are obliged to:

• Offer the passenger transportation by another train or
• Extend the ticket validity or
• Effer the passenger a class or train upgrading with no extra charge.

Domestic Transport Of Registered Luggage

The Railway is responsible for the baggage from the time the baggage is received at the Baggage Office, until the delivery to the beneficiary, at the destination station.

International Bus Lines Of The Hellenic Railways

For luggage loss or damage due to a proved Hellenic Railways responsibility the passenger receives a total refund of €150 for all luggage pieces. All above mentioned are legally based, or derive from Hellenic Railways regulations which are subject to modification according to the valid prescriptions. As a result to this, all above mentioned are for the passengers' information only. They are not separate self-existent regulations.

Group Tickets

A reduction of 30% up to 50%, on the ticket price, is granted to groups of people over 6 persons. The reduction is valid in all trains with no restrictions regarding time limits. All additional price supplements (couchette supplement, quality or priority train supplement etc.) are fully charged. Unions, Clubs, High Schools etc. should make a written reservation request to the respective Railway Station at least 15 days before the scheduled departure.

Persons With Reduced Mobility

A reduction of 50% , on the ticket price, is granted to persons with reduced mobility. The reduction is valid in all trains with no restrictions regarding time limits All additional price supplements (couchette supplement, quality or priority train supplement etc.) are fully charged.

Multiple journey Card

The card is issued for unlimited journeys of any itinerary for 1 up to 5 persons at "special" reduced prices. The multiple journey card is issued for 10,20 or 30 days. The card is valid in 2nd class. All additional price supplements (couchette supplement, quality or priority train supplement etc.) are fully charged.

Passengers under 26 years

A reduction of 25%, on the 2nd class ticket price, is granted to these passengers. The reduction is not applicable:

• On InterCity, InterCity Express trains as well as the Suburban Railway lines.
• Between the 23rd of December and the 6th of January.
• 9 days before and 7 days after orthodox Easter.
• During July and August.
