Taxis fare in France are strictly controlled. It is composed of: - a minimum (standard) fare: about 2 euros - 3 or 4 rates per kilometre mainly determined by the time slot (day fare and night fare) - the day fare is about 0,65 euros per km - the night fare is about 1 euro per km - possible supplements: baggage transport, animal transport, picking up at train stations, etc. This fares vary according to the French department where you are. For information only, the cost of a trip by taxi (day fare) from the centre of Paris is about: - 35 euros for the Orly airport - 50 euros for the Roissy Charles de Gaulle airport This fare are higher in the evening, at night, Sunday and during public holidays. In order to find a taxi, you can:
- wait at the taxi station (indicated by a board) in the big cities, train stations, airports...
- call a taxi in the street. The taxi won't stop to pick you up if it isn't free: the neon sign « taxi » on its roof has to be turned on and the small lights under this sign have to be turned off. - call a taxi from the place where you are in order to come and pick you up. In that case the taxi will charge you for the moving.
