Cost of living

As for costs, they are quite comparable to the rest of Europe. Some goods can be quite pricey though, such as alcohol and tobacco. But substantial items, particularly accommodation can be priced quite adequately. To get a basic idea of the cost of living in Finland, please check below.

- Movie Ticket € 10,00 - 12,00 (cheaper if it is bought in a group. It is cheaper before 17 in the week days and there will be special offers)
- Cup of Coffee € 1,50 - 5,00 (special coffees are more expensive)
- Local bus ticket (Helsinki) € 2,30-4,00
- Newspaper € 2,00 - 4,00
- Liter of bottled water € 3,00
- Liter of Milk € 1,00
- Six eggs € 1,00
- Loaf of Bread € 1,00 - 4,00
- Eating Out: Lunch € 7,00-10 (per person); student cafeteria € 1,50-5,00

Housing Cost Per Month:
- Single student in shared living (electric and water usually included) €250-350
- Family housing for student € 250-470
- Single Adult cost of 1-2 bedroom apartment (in Helsinki) € 600-1.000

Student Discounts:
Cost of living for a single student is determined 700 euros per month. Once you have the student card from your Finnish university, university of applied sciences or vocational school  you can get discounts for meals, transport and for the leisure activities. Please check Finnish student Union for more information. If you are not a student in Finland please check European Youth card or international student identity cards  (ISIC) for  benefits.
