In case of problems with justice

If you have problems with justice, you can go to a Juridisch Loket (juristic service) in several places to get help at writing letters, finding out your rights etc. Call 0900- 8020 for a juridisch loket in your city. You can also ask the people from the Youth Information Centre where to go.   You can also go to FORUM (institute for multicultural development) for social-juristically problems. They are especially for people from outside The Netherlands.   To be under arrest In the Netherlands anybody can held a suspect at the moment you see doing him/her something wrong. But what if you’re under arrest? If you’re being held, you could be asked for your name, address, place of birth and your birthday (you don’t have to answer). After that you could be taken to a police office. Then you’re officially under arrest. At the police office you see the public prosecutor. After investigation you have to set free, but not if the public prosecutor wants more investigation. Then you can be held for six hours. At this moment you don’t have the right of a attorney. If he/she thinks, after those six hours, you need to be present for the investigation you can be held for another three days, and can be extended for another three days. Now you have the right at an attorney. Within three days and fifteen hours you have to be seen by the investigation judge for interrogation. After that it’s decided if you have to stay and or can go home.
