If you need the police, but it is not an emergency, dial 0900 88 44. They give you the nearest police office. This is not a free call.
Victims help service
If you are a victim of an offence or an traffic accident you can go to Bureau Slachtofferhulp (Victim Help service) for free reception and help. If you don’t want to go to the office yourself, you can also ask if the come to your place.
Lost/Theft
If you’ve lost your money or papers, or when they are stolen, go to the police and report it. When your report the loss or theft then the police writes an ‘proces verbaal” (official report). With this you can go to your embassy for further help. Also contact your bank or credit card company immediately when you lost your credit cards or cheques, or when they are stolen. It’s also the same for your mobile phone company. The company takes care of blocking it all, so no (more) damage can be done.
How to receive cash from abroad
If you have the luck that someone is willing to send you money by bank account, it can be done for free within the countries of the EU. It can be free only when the amount is not higher then €12.500 and you have to use your European account number and the special international number of the bank. Outside the EU and when you not following the conditions mentioned above, the banks will ask you for a fee.
