Youth Information Services
The main missions of the "Centre Information Jeunes", the Luxembourgish Youth Information Centre, are information and assistance. Our way of operating our information service and of organising our information projects relies on the philosophy stipulated by the ERYICA (European Youth Information and Counselling Agency) - International Charter of Youth Information. Our information service is open to everybody. Everybody has the right to enter the centre without the trouble of a prior appointment. Information can be requested via phone, e-mail or by personally showing up at the centre. And all kinds of questions are received and dealt with with the necessary seriousness. In conformity to the Charter, all questions are treated confidentially, anonymously and for free. Furthermore the charter stipulates that the given information has to be correct, objective, updated and as complete as possible. So if the staff of the centre cannot immediately give a satisfying response, the question is redirected to a more competent source of information in that domain. Our information service is divided into different thematic spaces, based on the demands we get. The most popular subjects are: the European Voluntary Service, low budget holidays, the EURO<26 card, cultural activities in the transnational region of Luxembourg, Belgium, France and Germany, work camps, linguistic courses, student jobs, job search, ... Printed documentation on those themes is always available to the visitors. Young people looking for information can either freely consult the displayed material or they can ask concrete assistance from one of the educators working there. Besides these two possibilities of tracking information, visitors can also consult Internet for free. Absolute beginners to computers and Internet technology can even receive a short introduction into the subject. Besides the information service, we also realise different other projects based on youth information. The most important are as follows:
The Carrousel: it's a metal rack on wheels that turns around its own axe (hence the name) and serves as distributor for information leaflets. It has numerous arms with platforms to carry paper documentation. The idea of the project is to put these racks in public spaces that are frequented by a lot of youngsters, like schools, multiplex cinemas, shopping malls, sports centres,...At the moment, the Centre Information Jeunes has 42 such Carrousels functioning. We also produce the thematic information - leaflets to go with the Carrousels. Each leaflet treats one subject in the two languages German and French. The contents summarise the important facts and feature postal and internet addresses for further information and assistance. The subjects change periodically and old leaflets get replaced by updated ones.
The Guide Jeunes: a 60 pages-booklet that is updated every year with important information for young people living or visiting Luxembourg
The Plan de la Ville: a map of Luxembourg-city with lots of extra information especially interesting to youngsters
The participation in diverse fares, like the annual students' fare, and interventions in schools on a specific subject, for example the European Voluntary Service. Our education service provides training in intercultural learning methods for facilitators, on-arrival trainings and mid-term evaluations for the EVS and European Short Study Visits.
