Training to do babysitting
The AFP (Action Familiale et Populaire - Family and Popular Action) regularly offers babysitting courses. Afterwards a list with the names of the people having done this formation is published.

The training courses cost 10€ and take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3pm to 6.30pm. You have to be older than 15 years. Babysitting courses are also offered by various communes or Youth Houses (Maisons des Jeunes). Please contact the communes or youth houses directly for more information.
Training to become an facilitator of youth activities
If you prefer working as an assistant facilitator (aide animateur) and take part in the organization of children's vacation camps you need a formation as a "animateur de loisirs". With this formation you can also work in the commune's holiday activities. Several youth organisations cooperate in the organisation of the training:

The formation generally counts 2 cycles (+ 1 cycle of improvement)
After the first cycle you gain the position of an assistant-facilitator - aide- animateur. The cycle comprisies:
- 3 weekends of training
- 1 week of formation
- practical training course: 1 colony/holiday camp of 8 days minimum.
After the second cycle you gain the position of facilitator - animateur. The cycle comprises:
- 3 weekends of training
- 1 week of formation
- 1 practical training course: 1 colony/holiday camp of 8 days minimum.
The improvement cycle comprises:
- working weeks
- conferences-debates
General information:
- The minimum age required is: 16 years (for the Red Cross, 15 years; for the CAPEL, 17 years for the training course and 18 to become a supervisor)
- Any formation gives right to a diploma which is recognized by the various organizations.
- The costs are in charge of the candidate.
- A booklet, which gathers all information on the programs of the various formations is published by the SNJ (National Youth Service).
You can also become a copilot at a Youth House. Here you will have the tasks of animating and framing activities and taking responsibilities in the management of Youth Houses.
