Social security

You’re not longer covered by the general social security provisions in your country if you go and work abroad. But if you’re an EEA national, you can transfer every entitlement you build up in your own country by using E-forms and/or the European health insurance pass. There are different forms, like for paying benefits if you’re sick, or pensions, or unemployment benefits or child benefits. Those E-forms  can you obtain from the benefit organisations in your home country.   If you’re working in the Netherlands, the most important social security contributions for the social security system of the Netherlands are deducted from your salary automatically. If you become ill, then your employer have to pay at least seventy percent of your wages for the next two years. It doesn’t mean you can be home sick all the time and easily get your money; of course everybody is trying to get you back at work as soon as possible.   If you get unemployed register yourself as soon as possible with the CWI (Centre for Work and Income). Their you search for a new job and ask for a unemployment benefit (WW). You won’t get it automatically because there are some rules attached to it.  You must have been employed for at least six months before loosing your job for example and the level and duration of your benefit depends on your working history.   If you work in the Netherlands you have to have a medical insurance even if it is for one hour a week! For the medical expenses is a general basic insurance in the Netherlands of about €1100,- a year. When you have a very low income you can get a compensation for it up to a maximum of €330,- a year. It provides a basic coverage, so if you want additional coverage for special care you have to take an additional insurance. You can choose the insurance company yourself.
