If you are sick

Sudden illness, injury and other emergency situations are dealt with by the Accident and Emergency department in a special section of hospitals. If a life threatening situation arises, a paramedic can be called directly to the site by calling 112. Another health emergency call number is 155. Selected health facilities provide also dental ambulance.

Pharmacies provide medications to patients on the basis of prescriptions either without charge, if the medication is fully covered by the health insurer, or for a corresponding charge, if the insurer only covers part or none of the price.

Validity of medical prescriptions:
•    a prescription from emergency services is valid for a day after the day of issue,
•    a prescription for antibiotics is valid for three days,
•    all other prescriptions are valid for one week
